A Few Good Roomates...

Alcoholic Roomie hit me up for a little chat the moment he got home last night.

He was very earnest and serious (quite like the way he was when we first met!) and he told right off the bat that he was leaving the house, as soon as possible. Why? Because he doesn't want to make more problems for me, because he doesn't want "ruin" our friendship, and - oh! - his cantina back home has been shut down, because of a murder, and there may be dire legal consequences because the business is in his name.

Also, he has no money, but I can keep the (already spent!) deposit, and he'll be gone in a few weeks.

He asked me if I had anything to say. I thought about it, and told him, "No."

I've already received over 5 inquiries about the room-for-rent posts I made on Sunday, so I'm feelin´ optimistic.

I've been looking for advice on how to interview and select a good roomates, and I've found several interesting lists of questions.

I found a very helpful article as well, that very casually mentions some of the best advice I've seen yet:

Check out their body language. Excessive twitching, scratching or sweating may be signs of unpleasant personal habits to come.

Ready, Set, Go!!!

Monday has come, I'm awake early, coffee in hand, with plenty of time to spare to leave for work and beat the taking the kiddies to school morning rush. I have alot to work on this week:

1. My classes.
  • keep the ones I have
  • vague, loose lesson plans work really well (compared to no lesson plans)
  • get new ones
2. Cafe a la Moda
  • meetings
  • whatever Candela has planned...?
3. Zoila
  • see Ulises about logo-labels, price quote, colors etc.
  • um, make more bracelets
  • take them to Kulte, Rock Shop
4. Living Situation
  • respond to ads, interview potential renters-roommates
  • don't scream at roomie
  • kick roomie out (after rent is paid, assuming rent will be paid)
  • decide not to kick roomie out
5. Life in General
  • please please not to spend more than 50ish pesos a day!!!
  • be nice to everyone who deserves it
  • don't send El Perro any mean (or sexy) emails, no matter how much a jerk he is and deserves to know it
  • look good always
  • don't try to do everything; having a social life and projects is great, but your friends don't really really need you to attend every occasion/event they toss your way.
Okay, I think that's all for now. That should keep me straight. And keep me from going crazy.

No, I didn't go to Acapulco for Semana Santa.

Hmmmm... I just realized several of my recent entries have been about my roommate. While I have been making the best of things, and keepin' a good attitude, I can't help but recognize that as a BAD SIGN.

Juan has been asleep on the sofa all morning (I think they came home around 7am) and I'm a little distressed, because my house is a mess. And it's 1 o'clock, and they are still asleep.

I want my roomate to stumble out of bed, so I can sweetly lay down the law: CLEAN UP YOUR SHIT.

It's all good, I was drinking a bit with them myself last night... but, well, I just hate they way last night's fun turns into sleep all day and leave the house a disaster.

*Sigh*
1. Time to hit the rental bulliten boards. Any non-alcholics want to come live with me?
2. Bathe, wake roomie up, give them a deadline, by which they house will be clean as a whistle, neat as a pin.
3. Leave house.

UPDATE:
They all finally woke up and left. I paid back my roomate the 200 pesos he had given me last week, thus inadvertently letting him know that I was no longer poor.

When they came back, my roomie tried to borrow another 50 off me. I shook my head, and mentioned the 200 pesos I had given him earlier, and he says, "Yeah, but we just spent that all in the cantina... " I told him that was not my fault.

I mean, the guy is going to owe me 1500 in a few days, for rent... I just thought I'd keep us at that number, as I have my doubts as to whether he will even have that or not.

coffee, sex and new friends

So, me and my friend go to the Pendulo in the Condesa. We have coffee, we are talking, and we spend about an hour talking about intimate details about her relationship with her boyfriend.

Many things were mentioned, including masturbation, sex, and wanting sex. We also talked about a man's "thing".

Suddenly a voice behind us asks, "I'm sorry to interupt you ladies, but... " We were both mortified. Living in Mexico, and speaking another language besides Spanish lulls you into a false sense of security. You carry on in your first language, and you just get used to the fact that MOST people don't understand it.

Until you go to a cafe, and talk about SEX in a normal tone of voice, and after an hour get interrupted by a fellow patron who (holy fuckin' shit!!!)speaks English and very likely understood everything you had just said.

Then you realize all over again that thing about u and me, and the ass...

So we made a new friend. Turns out the guy was having a bad day, welcomed our conversation as a welcome distraction to his troubles, and finally heard enough to risk joining in.

He is also a psychologist, and an actor. And a pretty nice fellow. We had a nice chat, he offered some ideas to my friend about her concerns, which she was happy to have from a male perspective, and we talked about other stuff for awhile.

I apologized to him for not having any sexual problems to share, but he didn't mind.

Noche en Guadalajara...

Well, we all went out Saturday night, some friends and all the housemates.

This is my roomate. It turns out he likes to drink - alot. It was distressing, to see him drink. Mostly because he had already explained to us that he had a HUGE drinking problem, and he hadn't been drinking in 8 months.

Seeing him drink, it was evident why he had to stop. He didn't come home with us that night, and the next morning when I saw him, his face was fucked up, because he had gotten into a fight.

We talked about it, he says he doesn't want to drink any more. I have my fingers crossed, but in the back of my mind I'm thinking, "How many times has he said that that before...?"

On a lighter note, here is my other roomie and his girl.

Paty and Candela... and Candela's Burger

Okay, I almost gave up the blog, but mostly because my life has become SO BUSY that all extra things (cleaning house, watching Los Sanchez, blogging...) fell by the wayside.

My burger... called "The Redneck"

I went with the Paty, Ernesto and Candela and Daniela to BARRACUDA'S. Barracuda's is this retro style diners, that serves MONSTER hamburgers, and CURLY FRIES - Just like Jack-in-a-Box, I swear, the SAME ONES - AND also happpens to be a FULL BAR.

It also happens to be full of Mexico City hipsters.

Paty's fashion show. I had just designed some new wrist cuffs, and Olga snatched them up and put them on her models - to my great joy!

The show was a huge success... there had to be 300 people there, the place was packed. I got to see the models backstage, but I couldn't get within 6 feet of the runway:(

Me and Carlitos, this adorable artist who turns old books into arts, since (he says) no one in Mexico likes to read, so he makes them into art so people will look at them.

Candy, and Sue-Ellen...! An old friend from a long time ago, we've started bumping into each other(since I have a social life again!) and proof of my burgeoning career as a designer was when she saw me she said "I knew you'd be here... it was a fashion show, I said, Victoria will be here..."

I was drunk that night. I think I gave her yet another business card.

I've never had business cards... and I love them, so ... oh well.

Boys Are Wierd

Two years ago I met a boy in my neighborhood. We talked for a little bit, and one day he came to my house and we kissed. I protsted appropriately, and he left, and I didn't hear from him again.

About 4 months ago, I saw him on the street, and he seemed happy to see me, so we talked and I gave him my new number. He didn't call.

He just called me this morning, to say "hi". I didn't have the slightest clue who he was, I didn't recognize his name or voice. He reminded me ("Oooooh"! I said, "The guy from a loooooong time ago....?") and now he's going to accompany me on my way to my afternoon class.

He's cute and nice, kinda young... but wtf? Two years later he decides to call me? I'm curious, but ready to be annoyed if he tries anything funny.

By the way, I had a GREAT time at Fusion, and I sold about 2000 pesos of stuff. Valio la pena, y voy a seguir haciendo cosas para la sigiente.

Fusion Thursday

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Well, the first day of Fusion went FINE - so well in fact that I didn't take any pictures at all. But I did take pictures afterwards, when I realized I hadn't yet taken any pictures.

I sold some stuff already, and everyone seemed really into my stuff. Yay!!!!

My friend Paty came to take care of my booth while I ran off to give classes in Toreo for a few hours. When I came back, it was decided that we would eat, then all go to a fashion show at the Hostel Vireyes.

This is the wonder that is Carlitos. He seemed quite comfortable with the fact that I wanted to take pictures of him. And later when I returned for the details, he didn't bat an eye.

Fusion!!!!

Okay, I've been slaving for the past 4 days, sewing, hammering on snaps, and producing stuff to sell at Fusion.

Go to Fusion, buy my stuff, buy everyone else's stuff, and be amazed at the utter coolness of art-design-music all in one space for your shopping needs.

Conveniently located "Where It's At" in the Centro Historico!!!
